Abstract art

Art in which the depiction of real objects has been discarded or subordinated in favor of lines, patterns, color and shapes instead of recognizable images for its compositional elements. Total abstraction bears no trace of any reference to anything recognizable. Sometimes called non-figurative painting. In the early 20th century Cubist and Futurist art was also described as abstract art.
