Art in which the depiction of real objects has

discarded or subordinated in favor
of lines, patterns, color and shapes instead of recognizable images for
its compositional elements. Total abstraction bears no trace of any reference
to anything recognizable. Sometimes called non-figurative
painting. In the early 20th century Cubist and Futurist art was
also described as abstract art. |
